Render Painting in Canterbury

Canterbury Decorators paint rendered exterior walls across Canterbury, Whitstable, Herne Bay, Faversham, Sturry, and the surrounding villages.
Rendered walls are one of the most common exterior finishes on Canterbury’s housing stock. Algae staining, hairline cracking, or a faded colour: these problems are solvable with the right preparation and the right paint.
- Smooth and sand-faced render on interwar and postwar homes
- K-Rend and polymer render systems on newer builds

Canterbury’s Render Painting Specialists
Smooth and Fine-Textured Render
Standard smooth or sand-faced cement render is the most common exterior finish on properties built between the 1920s and the 1980s. We pressure wash, fill hairline cracks, and apply breathable masonry paint. We also offer dedicated conservatory painting services.
Hairline Cracks and Surface Repairs
Hairline cracks appear on most rendered walls over time. We open each crack, apply a flexible exterior filler, and allow it to cure fully before the first coat goes on.
K-Rend and Polymer Render Systems
K-Rend and similar polymer render systems on newer builds require a compatible breathable paint. Applying standard masonry paint over K-Rend causes premature failure. We identify the render system before quoting.
Lime Render on Period Properties
Canterbury has significant historic properties with lime render. We use breathable mineral-based coatings on lime render. Standard masonry paint traps moisture in lime walls and causes early failure.
Algae and Biological Growth Treatment
Painting over untreated growth causes paint to fail rapidly. We treat all affected areas with a mould wash. See our exterior painting service for combined work. For pebbledash panels, we coordinate both finishes. See our coastal property painting for salt-air challenges.

Our Render Painting Process
1. Survey
We assess the render type, surface condition, crack extent, and access requirements before quoting.
2. Pressure Washing
The full rendered elevation is washed down and allowed to dry.
3. Mould Treatment
Applied where algae or lichen is present. Allowed to work before the surface is rinsed.
4. Crack Repairs
Hairline cracks filled with flexible exterior filler, allowed to cure fully.
5. Primer Coat
Bare, repaired, or highly porous areas primed before finish coats.
6. Finish Coats
Breathable masonry paint applied in two coats — roller for open areas, brush for detail and edges.
