Pebbledash Painting in Canterbury

Canterbury Decorators paint pebbledash and pebble dash exteriors across Canterbury, Herne Bay, Whitstable, Faversham, Sturry, and the surrounding villages.
Pebbledash is one of the most common exterior finishes on UK interwar and postwar housing. It is also one of the most challenging surfaces to paint properly.
- Pebbledash upper-storey panels on 1930s and 1950s semis
- Full-house pebbledash on postwar properties
- Spray application on large pebbledashed elevations
- Surface repairs — filling detached pebble areas before painting
- Colour changes — transforming tired pebbledash to a fresh finish

Canterbury’s Pebbledash Painting Experts
How Pebble Dash Is Painted
Pebbledash is not painted the same way as smooth render. The embedded stones create a large and uneven surface area. We use long-pile masonry rollers and brushes to work paint fully into the textured surface.
Surface Preparation
Pebbledash traps biological growth. Painting over biological growth breaks down the finish quickly. We pressure wash the surface, apply a mould treatment, and allow the wall to dry fully before painting.
Colour Options
Pebbledash colour changes are among the most visually dramatic exterior transformations we do. A 1950s semi painted in warm slate, sage, or charcoal becomes a different house.
Partial Pebbledash
Many 1930s and 1950s semis have pebbledash only on the upper storey. Painting the pebbledash panel separately requires careful masking at the dividing line between surfaces.
Coastal Properties
Herne Bay and Whitstable have a high density of pebbledash properties. For homes where pebbledash shares the exterior with render-painted panels, we coordinate both. See our exterior painting service for combined work.

Our Pebbledash Painting Process
1. Survey and Quote
We assess the surface area, biological growth, pebble condition, and access requirements before quoting.
2. Pressure Washing
The full pebbledash surface is washed down and allowed to dry.
3. Mould Treatment
Where moss, algae, or lichen is present, a treatment is applied and allowed to work before painting.
4. Repairs
Detached pebble areas and cracked render are filled and allowed to cure.
5. First Coat
Long-pile roller application, worked into recesses with a brush.
6. Second Coat
Applied once the first is fully dry — typically the following day.
